WWISA is the ideal situation for volunteering without
the hogwash of most other volunteer organizations. It allows for
so much personal freedom that you don’t find with the other
programs. Coming here, I was not sure what I wanted to do or what
I wanted to accomplish, only that I wanted to spend time in warm
weather near the beach while working to help the lives of those
in need.
All I knew was what I read on the site, along with my conversations
with Rocky, who told me there were always things that needed to
be done and projects that needed to be addressed. I came to meet
so many interesting people that ideas came up almost daily. Whether
it be writing business plans for village residents, teaching children
how to use the computer, or mapping routes of beaches for environmental
education, my time here has been full of things that I never thought
I would ever have the chance to do in my life.
WWISA is a top-notch organization. Everyone from Mac, our fantastic
chef, to Rocky, our inspirational leader, and Nicky, the glue that
holds it all together, my time here is full of memories that always
put a smile on my face. I found I was always saying a particular
time of day was my favourite, soon realizing that they all were.
It’s just an awesome place to spend a part of your life in.
My only regret is that I cannot spend more time here.
For me, the hard part was deciding to come to a country that I
did not know much about. Once I got here, the rest was easy - just
livin‘ baby, just livin‘.
Letting the good times roll,
Pete
