It is because of the enthusiastic testimonials
I found here that I chose WWISA and not another organization!
And it is all that they say, and even more, because experiencing
the real thing, “volunteering through WWISA” is even
better than reading about it.
I spent my time (4 weeks) ‘playing' with the 80+ children
(between 3 to 5,5 years old) at the crèche of Kurland Village:
how could I not love these children??
Although the kids live in a township, there is so much life in
them, a lot of love & laughter too. They are open and giving
to each volunteer - it might begin with a smile, then they approach
to touch you while passing by and before you know it, they take
your hand. Two hours later one or more is sitting on your knees
and when you leave at the end of the day they all say goodbye and
are waving at you.
One day, I came back to the crèche after visiting my godchild
during the break at the school nearby. A few of the children who
were playing outside in the garden saw me coming to the crèche
so they came running to the fence, opened the gate for me and continued
running to me with big smiles and open arms. What a welcome!!!
Besides that, I had a great time with the other volunteers at WWISA,
Polly, Caroline, Nick and Pete. Returning home after work we shared
our stories and we sometimes even participated/visited each other's
projects. It allowed us to be part of a different experience and
give us more insight into what the others were doing.
Finally, I enjoyed my stay at the WWISA house with its beautiful
garden and its wonderful people who are always willing to help you
out whether it is work related or personal. Mac & Rocky, you
ROCK, guys ! And Marietjie, thank you for everything.
