My trip to South Africa started as a 6 week long
study abroad trip. I was excited to go, but I thought I would get
very homesick. I wanted to help people, but I wasn't sure how I
would adjust to being away from home so long. I thought, if I were
missing my home and family so much everyday, could I fully enjoy
the experience?
I met so many amazing people when I arrived that
I did not miss home for one second. Mac and Rocky immediately welcomed
us and made us feel at home. They were so awesome by giving us everything
we needed and being such great people. They were more fun than anyone
I have ever met!
My group worked in Coldstream. The children and
the teachers there were so nice and welcoming! They enjoyed having
us there and really appreciated everything that we were doing. We
wanted to do so much more, but only had so much time. I adored the
children and thought they were so beautiful. They loved being involved
in our projects and wanted to help wherever they could. I miss our
children very much!
I loved being in South Africa so much that, much
to the dismay of certain family members, I stayed an extra month!
Even then, I did not want to go home. I am definitely going to return.
I miss the people of Rocky Road, the beautiful
waterfalls, beaches, and mountains so much. Mac, Rocky and their
friends are truly some of the greatest people I have ever known.
They live to help others and they were like a family to me. I can't
wait to return to continue helping them to help others in the community.
