I arrived at Rocky Road not knowing quite what
to expect from my stay. But I was made feel welcome and at home
from the start by the team. Together we started planning what projects
I would work on and I was soon introduced to Kurland where I spent
a week working closely with the teachers organising the annual district
inter-schools athletics meet. I then moved on to work with the Mazisame
Prevention Programme, a crèche that’s designed to prepare
kids from the streets for their future. I grew attached to the children
immediately and loved going to work - which is a first for me!!
I also spent week evenings training a soccer team in Kurland Village,
the under 15 boys were just like the boys at home - but everyone
of them were lovable rogues and hard working. I’ve had the
time of my life in South Africa and will never forget the people
I’ve met here, whether they be kids or adults I’ve worked
with or been one of the many visitors passing through Rocky Road.
This trip has given me experiences and memories to take with me
forever. “Thank You” for everything!!
